Experiences

ScaiConnect

2020 โ€“ 2025

Five years managing Linux systems and OpenStack platforms for major Italian Telcos (Wind3, CoopVoce, PosteMobile), working on a distributed infrastructure spanning over 20 datacenters across Italy. Day-to-day work covered the full stack: OpenStack core services (Nova, Cinder, Neutron, Glance, Heat), Kubernetes orchestration, SDN via OpenDaylight and OVSDB, Juniper (JunOS) and Pluribus NRU switches, NexentaStor and ScaleIO (PowerFlex) storage, Commvault backup, Corosync/Pacemaker high-availability clusters, and hardware-level diagnostics via IPMI.

DedaConnect

2025 โ€“ Present
  • Infrastructure deployment for CYTA Mobile: administration of Ericsson CEE/SDI and CCD (Kubernetes) environments, system upgrades, and production of technical documentation (LLD/HLD/MOP).
  • Providing an internal company Linux course, covering foundational Linux topics for colleagues.
  • Preparation of a Proof of Concept in a test environment: installation of a two-node OpenShift cluster with arbiter and configuration for VM migration from VMware to OpenShift Virtualization.
  • Deployed and configured a complete VMware infrastructure for ENEL, Italy’s leading energy company, including vSphere/ESXi, vCenter Server, vSAN and vDS, delivering a high-availability virtualization environment in a large enterprise context, including technical design documentation (LLD/HLD).

Additional Knowledge

Cloud Infrastructure & Orchestration

  • OpenStack Ecosystem: Day-to-day management of virtual machines for end clients: instance provisioning, live and cold migrations, evacuations, and rebuilds via CLI (Nova). Storage operations with Cinder: volume creation, attachment, resizing, and snapshots. Network management via Neutron: port configuration, floating IP assignment, and network troubleshooting. Image management with Glance and stack orchestration with Heat.
  • Containerization: Support and troubleshooting of containerized environments on Kubernetes. Day-to-day use of Docker and Podman for container management and debugging.

Networking & SDN

  • SDN & Controllers: Support and troubleshooting on OpenDaylight-based SDN infrastructures, working on OVSDB entries at the server level to diagnose and resolve connectivity issues.
  • Network Hardware: Support and troubleshooting on Pluribus NRU switches: diagnosing fabric issues and resolving MPO interface problems at the physical layer.
  • Juniper Networks: Management of Juniper devices via JunOS: interface administration, cluster management (EAS), and configuration changes on production network equipment.

Storage & High Availability

  • Distributed Storage: Administration of ScaleIO (PowerFlex) clusters: managing storage pools and devices, adding and removing resources, and performing maintenance operations on production distributed storage.
  • NexentaStor: Management of NexentaStor clustered pools via CLI and NexentaFusion: pool and dataset administration, snapshot management, and troubleshooting of storage availability issues.
  • High Availability: Configuration and troubleshooting of HA clusters with Corosync and Pacemaker: resource management, failover handling, and diagnosis of split-brain situations in production environments.

Hardware Management

  • Server Health, IPMI & iLO: Remote hardware diagnostics and management via IPMI and HPE iLO: monitoring server health (fans, temperatures, PSUs), resetting unresponsive nodes, and resolving hardware-level failures without physical datacenter access.

AI Tools

  • Agentic AI: Daily use of agentic AI tools and workflows (Claude Code). General understanding of how large language models work, prompt engineering, and AI-assisted task automation. Personal experimentation with locally-run LLMs (Ollama, Open WebUI).
